Students at St. Cecilia receive a traditional elementary school education with an emphasis on reading, writing and mathematics. Teachers are encouraged to engage children through creative teaching styles, igniting their curiosity and imaginations. All of the curriculum meets the guidelines and requirements set by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Department on Catholic Schools.
St Cecilia School has teamed up with a coalition of Catholic Schools to be a part of the Department of Catholic Schools: Solidarity Schools.
Reading
All Solidarity Schools have instituted the Success For All (SFA) reading program in the fall of 2023. since that time, we have had a 10% growth in number of students reading at or above grade level in grades 1st through 5th. Included in SFA is the Getting Along Together (GAT). GAT provides the social-emotional our children need to feel comfortable at school. SFA focuses on learning phonics and reading strategies that help all students succeed.
Math
In the fall of 2024, St. Cecilia School will adopt the Illuminate Math curriculum for grades 1st – 8th. We are excited to learn the new curriculum and are looking forward to strong growth in the area of math.
Additional Resources
We offer extra support for students with special learning needs. We include an intervention period 4 days per week in all grade levels. During this 40 minute period. all students work independently using adaptive software from: Symphony Math, Lexia Reading, ALEKS math, and SFT tutoring software. This intensive intervention allows teachers to assist struggling or advanced students, while students work at their own skill levels.
